Managing Recovery

SMART Recovery is a science-based programme to help people manage their recovery from any type of addictive behaviour. SMART Recovery helps participants decide whether they have a problem, builds up their motivation to change and offers a set of proven tools and techniques. SMART Recovery aims to

 

 

 

 

  • Teach self-empowerment and self-reliance

  • Provide meetings that are educational, supportive and include open discussions

  • Encourage individuals to recover from addiction and alcohol abuse and live satisfying lives

  • Teach techniques for self-directed change

  • Support the scientifically informed use of psychological treatments and legally prescribed psychiatric and addiction medication

  • Work on substance abuse, alcohol abuse, addiction and drug abuse as complex maladaptive behaviour with possible physiological factors

  • Evolve as scientific knowledge in addiction recovery evolves

  • Differ from Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other 12-step programme to support recovery

SMART Groups are held at The Timmermarket on Tuesdays from 11am-12.30pm. New members are seen on an individual basis by a worker prior to attending group meetings to ensure that the group is appropriate for them. Please contact ADA on 01224 594700 for more information.

We also run a SMART Group at the Stonehaven Community Centre from 6.30pm-8.00pm.
